Girls' Haven Gumbo Festival
Every year Girls' Haven hosts their Annual Gumbo Festival.  This is their biggest fundraier of the year.  We are excited to be a part of this incredible event.

Goodwill will be out there to lend a hand, but also to lend wheelchairs and strollers to those in need.  We will hold on to a drivers license and get a waiver signed, but after that the wheelchair or stroller is yours to use to make your gumbo fesitval more enjoyable.

Sometimes it can get crowded holding a baby and trying to enjoy a bowl of gumbo.  We hope by allowing you to use a stroller you can enjoy this event this year and many years to come.

The event will be held this Saturday, February 25th from 12pm - 4pm at Parkdale Mall.  We hope you will come out to support Girls' Haven and use a stroller or wheelchair so everone in your party can have a great time!

See you there!
We "HEART" Our Shoppers - Cruise Update!
On Tuesday, February 14th, be sure to visit any Goodwill location and receive a lollipop!  We appreciate our shoppers and donors so much, and would not be able to keep our organization alive if it weren't for our supportive communities. We hope you all will accept this small token of appreciation.

We do have one small announcement of change regarding the Cruise to Mexico we recently announced!  We have had a lot of people interested in purchasing tickets for the cruise, but that unfortunately cannot make it to the banquet.  We have opened the raffle up to everyone. You do NOT have to be present at the banquet to win the raffle!  We hope this will encourage more of you to purchase a $10.00 raffle. Goodwill puts people to work - people with disabilities and employment limitations.  We help them provide for their families and live their lives abundantly.  Won't you purchase a ticket? Please call today.  409-838-9911

Consumer Product Safety Commission
At Goodwill the safety of our shoppers, employees, volunteers and the people we serve is our number one priority.  We encourage all parents to vist the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) website and sign up for safety news and recall emails so that they can stay up-to-date on product recall information.  Parents should always remain informed and vigilant, no matter where they shop.

It is important to distinguish between defective or dangerous items and all used products.  Used children's clothes, toys and other products sold at Goowill stores fill a critical need for many American families, particularly in these difficult economic times, when many parents cannot afford to buy all new products.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission specifically warns consumers not to purchase items that have a history of safety problems or have been recalled.  This does not mean that all used children's products and toys are unsafe.

At Goodwill, we use long-standing operational processes to identify donated goods that represent potential risk.  Each day we carefully sort through all donated items to identify products that have been recalled or are potentially dangerous.  Store employees frequently spot check the shelves to be doubly sure that no items have slipped through screeners.

We keep in close touch with CPSC and continually monitor and update our procedures to keep our employees informed of the most recalls and on the best practices for identifying defective and recalled products.

Please visit www.cpsc.gov to stay updated!
It's time to Get Organized
Did you know that January is National Get Organized Month?

Well, it makes sense, doesn't it? Along with losing weight and getting healthy, getting organizing is another top New Year's Resolution! There are all sorts of great tips and tricks to help you get organized and stay that way all year long.

One of the first steps of getting organized is to clean, clean, clean.  Ever look at a pile of stuff you've cleaned out of a closet and said "what am I going to do with all of this stuff?" Think no more! There is sure to be a Goodwill store near by that would be glad to take your things that you have no place for.  Goodwill is able to sell the items you donate, and use that revenue to fund career programs and help people with disabilities and other employment limitations achieve their full potential. It's a win-win situation! You are getting organized while we are putting people to work with the help of your donations.

Start with one room at a time. Find a place for the things you need, and give to Goodwill the things you have no place for. We thank you for your donations for the past 39 years and hope you will continue to help us serve our community!
We're going LIVE!
This Wednesday, January 16th, we will be at our Dowlen location from 11am-1pm! We will have a door prize, and will be giving away 20% off coupons to anyone who brings in a donation!  A big Goodwill truck will be parked right outside of our Dowlen location ready to be filled with your donations.

Our Dowlen location is located at 4380 Dowlen in Beaumont.  Remember Goodwill is

Helping people with disabilities or other
Employment
Limitations achieve their full
Potential

Stop by and help us help our community through the power of work! Your donations provide the way!

We hope to see you Wednesday!!
Goodwill Helps Teens Succeed
Young People Need Your Help This National Menoring Month!

January is National Mentoring Month, and Goodwill Industires of Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana is helping area youth succed by helping them overcome disadvantages and avoid delinquency through Goodwill's mentoring program.  The effort is part of a national program that helps teens finish school and transition into productive careers through the guidance of trusted adults and peers.

Through Goodwill's mentoring program, we aim to help youth develop career plans and skills, and prepare for graduation, post-secondary training and productive work by providing structured and supportive relationships with trusted adult and peer mentors.  It targets youths between the ages of 12 and 17 who are at-risk for dropping out of school, facing legal troubles, or at risk for deliquency due to issues such as abusde, disabilites, drug or alchohol dependence, or gang membership.

Goodwill is recruiting, training and supporting volunteer mentores to engage youth in promoting their career development and life skills.  If you would like to volunteer to be a mentor or know of a youth who would benefit from this program, please call Anthony Flores at 409-212-8368.
Market Basket Partnership
Goodwill Industries and select Market Basket stores will be pairing up to bring donation drop off convenience to our community.  You may have a lot of itmes that you'd like to donate after the Holiday season, but don't live close to a Goodwill.  It is Goodwill's goal to be as conveniant and readily available as our community wants us to be.

This is why we have approached our local Market Basket with this campaign.  Starting Sunday, January 1st four local Market Baskets will have two 75 gallon barrles with Goodwill's logo ready for you to drop in your donations!  We accept just about anything you are willing to donate.  We just ask one thing: please give as much thought into your item donations as you would your monetary donations.  You can find barrels at the follow Market Basket locations:

8350 Phelan Boulevard, Beaumont, TX 77706
421 S. Main, Lumberton, TX 77657
5960 Hwy 105, Beaumont, TX 77708
3955 Phelan Boulevard, TX 77707

Thank you, Market Basket, for helping us make a difference!
A Word From Our CEO
'Tis the season to be jolly, to give thanks for what we have and to spread a little cheer to others who are less fortunate.  Your Goodwill has helped over 1200 people last year through our counseling, job training and employment programs.

We employ over one hundred and sixty people who help us run the day to day enterprise and provide on the job training.  Many of our workers are former trainees who help new people learn and become employable again.  They share their stores, build confidence in every job task and encourage them to keep going.

Everyone at your Goodwill works hard and is proud to turn your donations into jobs.  Jobs that support their families and help them overcome their own challenges in life.  To work hard and take care of your family is the American dream and at Goodwill we are doing just that! Your gift of clothing, small appliances, furniture and household items makes it all possible.  This is the "power of work" in action!  Thank you for making a difference in your community and county.

Give whatever you can to Goodwill and make a difference!
